Sarasota was home to the FIRST golf course in Florida and it was the second course in all of America, circa 1886 by John Hamilton Gillespie due to his Scottish roots. At last count, we are home to over 1000 public, private, and semi-private golf courses.
We are home to THE MOST Zagat Rated restaurants in Florida within a 20 mile radius. In 1927 the world famous Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus chose Sarasota to be their winter home. Many feel this is what put Sarasota on the map, and the circus folk brought a culture involving arts, entertainment, and a way of life that lives here to this day!
It’s the only place in the world where you can walk through the treetops of a subtropical forest!
